Ameera’s Address

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيم

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

The Light Upon Light Women’s Foundation is a group of diverse professionals, students, mothers and daughters who came together to form this foundation, after having identified a gap within our community with regards to the needs and challenges of our Muslim sisters and more so, the nonexistence of solutions to our ever increasing unique challenges.

We have identified that throughout the lifespan of a Muslim female, from birth to death she faces numerous challenges that no one seems to be addressing.

Just as the world has identified and pronounced the challenges faced by so many innocent children and women in war torn countries, so too have we identified the severe trauma that girls and women live with on a daily basis.

We have made an intention that we will no longer sit back and listen to the young girls screaming out for help through their depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts. We cannot watch how they battle with their identity as young Muslimahs because they’re too bombarded with what the world is selling them and the peer pressure that goes with the need to buy into these ideologies.

We hear the woman cry that she doesn’t know who she is or where she belongs. Her daily battles are between home and a pressurizing career. Does she choose her Deen or her Dunyah?

We see the amount of divorces plaguing our community; the thousands of children growing up in dysfunctional families and the detrimental effects thereof. Are we really ok with the state of our Ummah and especially that of our mothers, sisters, and daughters?

On a daily basis she’s faced with so many choices. But when she makes her choice it doesn’t sit well with her and she feels unsettled.

She battles with herself, with her hijab, her. Her biggest struggle…..her disconnect. She feels so far removed from Allah, a spiritual abyss. And worse than that, is that she feels alone in this.

As a group of women who can relate to the above, we have decided that no one can help us get back on track, heal our wounds, pick up the pieces, make the sound choices and revive our hearts, except us.

We want to let the woman of Cape Town and the Ummah know that she is not alone. We want to invite her into our spaces and open up opportunities for her to proactively change her own condition.

﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُواْ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ﴾

Verily, Allah will not change the condition of a people as long as they do not change their state themselves. 13:11

We want to become the vehicle that she chooses because it’s a vehicle that redirects her back on course.  It realigns her to the Source.

The Light of the Heavens and the Earth.

Her only Guide.

The solution to all her pain and worries.

Her only Hope.

Her Rabb. The One who has never and will never forsake her. Allah.
