بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

Moulana starts off by quoting Sayidana Luqmaan as Allah narrates in the holy Quran:

“Oh my son, establish prayer, enjoin the good, forbid the evil and persevere in that which befalls you.

But never give up– Surah Luqmaan: 17

Why?  Why should we not give up?

Allah says:Because this is of the most important matters”  (3:186). Those who disbelieved of the Bani Israeel were cursed because of leaving “Enjoining the good and forbidding the evil”. “That is because they disobeyed Allah and transgressed his boundaries” (2:61) And the thing they used to do so terribly was:  “They didn’t prohibit each other from doing bad things, indeed a wretched thing they used to do” (5:79)

So when Moulana speaks about disputing, in his humble explanation of this verse of the holy Quran
He does not mean disputing over right and wrong. But it is also in the way in which we call to Allah.

“Call towards the path of your lord with wisdom, and good speech and debate with them that which is best.” (16:125)

Obey Allah and obey His messenger,  and don’t dispute amongst yourselves. But see what is happening in some of the areas in our community. Where Muslims are killing Muslims. Maybe in places of Syria they are doing it because of civil war, in our communities they are doing it because of drugs, money and gangsterism.

To kill a human being is like killing the whole of mankind. The ayah goes:

“… whosoever takes one life unjustly, it is as if he has killed all of mankind..” – Surah Ma’idah v32
Whoever kills a believer, Allah will put them in the fire forever and the wrath of Allah will be upon them, and Allah will curse and prepare for them a mighty painful torment. Our beloved Prophet (pbuh) said: “Whoever aids in the killing of another Muslim, even if it is with half a word, he will come in front of Allah on the day of judgment written on his forehead despaired of the mercy of Allah”

This is the danger of disputing over trivial issues, because it can lead to that. And it’s true; we see it happening all over the world. Where the lands are soaked in Muslim blood. And everyone’s circumstances are different but what is highlighted today in this Jumuah is the importance of mahabbah (love), unity and strength together.

The importance of reconciling between one another is stressed. Do not let the issues between brothers and sisters fester. And we all have the responsibility. If I know there is a dispute between two people it is my responsibility to make peace between them.

“And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.” (49:9)

And Allah says:
“And hold fast onto the rope of Allah, altogether, and do not become divided. And remember Allahs blessing upon you; how you were enemies, and he reconciled your hearts, and by his grace you became brothers. And you were on the brink of a pit fire, and he saved you from it. Allah thus clarifies His revelations for you, so that you may be guided”  (3:103)

The believers are nothing except one brotherhood
Because of La Ila Ha Illallah our hearts are united.
The brotherhood, the sisterhood of Islam.

And everybody wants to claim that. We are the group that follow the Quran and Sunnah. Sunni, salafi and muhajireen and etc. Yet Allah says so beautifully: “These are nothing but names you have made for yourselves, you and your fathers before you. Indeed Allah has not revealed any authority in the naming of these names” (53:23)

In the Quran what are our names?

“He has named you Muslims, in this scripture and the scriptures before you”

What does this tell us?
Our Religion is one.Our Shahada is one. Our Prayer is one.
Our Qiblah is one.
Our Quran is one.
Our final Prophet is one.

We are one Ummah.

So let Not these names divide us.

We don’t have time for these disputes anymore. We must persevere with each other. We must come to terms with, yes, we are going to disagree sometimes. And it is all okay as long as we are united on the foundation and the principles of Islam based on the teachings of the Holy Quran and our beloved Prophet (pbuh).

And Moulana ends of with saying:

“You are not a true believer until you love for your brother that which you love for yourself” (Muslim)

May Allah make our hearts firm on our religion.
May he unite our hearts and descend his Mahabbah upon us.
May we hold fast onto his rope, together, and never ever let go.
